Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve
The southern right whales migrate along the KwaZulu-Natal coast between May and September. Around the same time you will also see the Humpbacks but they stay until November. Watch them from the Whalebone Pier or book a boat trip. The choice is yours.

Hawaan Forest
The Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve is also home to the infamous Hawaan Forest – a lovely location known for its breathtaking scenery. This beautiful forest, regarded as the last of its kind, covers a sand dune that dates back 18 000 years. Home to a large diversity of plant, animal as well bird life including a number of indigenous and rare trees. Closed to the public but available for guided tours to preserve this piece of heaven. La Lucia Beach (also known as Glenashley Beach)
Feeling adventurous? La Lucia Beach is surely then your destination – activities range from snorkeling, diving, surfing and swimming. The warm Indian Ocean makes this part of Umhlanga the sought-after destination for swimming. Decorated with beautiful coral reefs and colourful fish – this tropical experience is just what you need.

Gateway Theatre of Shopping
Cannot complete a holiday without some shopping at Gateway Theatre of Shopping. This unique and stylish venue offers one of the most exquisite shopping experiences. (better known as The Shark Museum)
The KZN Sharks Board conducts research as well as maintains 37 beaches equipped with bather safety. With 50+ years’ experience – they hold an international reputation as being the leader in the field as well as being the only institution of its kind. Umhlanga Lighthouse
The light that serves as a sailor’s warning and welcomes them to the port of Durban. Visit the familiar beacon used on so many Durban postcards. The 21m fully automated tower stands on the shore of East Lagoon Drive. Pack a picnic basket and spend the day on the beach with the family.
